The expansion of the Teruel Airport continues to progress at a steady pace. The Aragonese infrastructure has completed the expansion of its terminal building, adding more than 800 square meters, a development that will enable it to respond to the growing business and operational activity recorded at the site in recent years.
The project, driven by the Teruel Airport Consortium, involves an expansion of the building over two floors, adding a total area of 815.42 square meters. The investment has reached €1.59 million and has been carried out over a period of twelve months.
During the inauguration of the new facilities, the Aragon Government’s Minister of Housing, Development, Logistics, and Territorial Cohesion, Octavio López, highlighted that this initiative represents «a new milestone» for what he described as the main industrial airport in southern Europe, an infrastructure that continues to expand its capacity to meet the growing demand from companies and workers.
More offices, technology spaces, and services for workers
The expansion includes new offices intended for both airport management and client companies located within the complex. Additionally, a modular meeting and conference room of 121 square meters has been constructed, equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, ready to host business meetings, specialized training, press conferences, and activities related to the aerospace ecosystem.
One of the highlights of the project is the creation of a new dining area. The space will feature a dining room for approximately 170 people, a self-service area, an industrial kitchen, and auxiliary facilities, a long-awaited improvement by the companies and professionals conducting their daily activities at the site. The management of this service will soon be put out to public tender.
The final outfitting of the facilities is currently in the procurement phase and includes furniture, audiovisual systems, movable partitions for the multipurpose room, and industrial kitchen equipment. It is expected that all these elements will be operational in the coming months.
An airport that is already one of the major economic engines of Teruel
The growth of the terminal reflects the evolution of an infrastructure that has become one of the main industrial hubs in Aragon. According to data provided during the inauguration, the airport currently houses around fifteen companies and generates nearly a thousand direct jobs, solidifying its status as one of the largest workplaces in the province of Teruel.
The mayor of Teruel, Emma Buj, emphasized that the terminal expansion is progressing in parallel with the business growth of the aerospace complex, enabling the offering of services commensurate with the dimension the airport has reached in recent years.
New investments for aerospace development
The expansion of the terminal complements other strategic initiatives currently underway. Among them, the construction of a new 1,500 square meter building for the future Aerospace Technology Center that the airport will develop in collaboration with the Technological Institute of Aragon stands out. This space will focus on research, innovation, and testing of new technologies linked to the sector.
Additionally, the fifth phase of expansion for aircraft parking and storage platforms has recently been completed, while construction progresses on a large production facility and hangar for high-altitude stratospheric airships, an investment close to €40 million that will position Teruel prominently within international developments related to telecommunications, earth observation, and climate monitoring.
A unique model in Europe
Unlike conventional airports primarily oriented toward passenger transport, Teruel Airport has built its growth on high-value-added industrial activities such as maintenance, storage, recycling, and transformation of aircraft, as well as the development of advanced aerospace projects.
The terminal expansion now reinforces an infrastructure that continues to enhance its capacity to attract investment, talent, and new technology companies, solidifying Teruel’s status as one of the most promising aerospace and aeronautical hubs in Europe.
