The Ibercaja Foundation has launched the sixth edition of the comic contest Universe Goya, an event aimed at inspiring young artists to explore the work of the renowned Aragonese painter Francisco de Goya.
This national competition is directed at creators aged 18 to 30, providing a platform for their artistic interpretations of Goya to come to life.
Participants have the opportunity to submit up to two original and unpublished works, with freedom in theme and technique, as long as they focus on Goya’s life and work. The works may address biographical anniversaries of the painter, reflections on his artistic legacy, or focus on specific pieces of his, whether a painting, drawing, or print.
The technical specifications are clear: the comics must be complete stories ranging from 2 to 4 pages, created on one side, in black and white or color, and in vertical format. Moreover, they must be written in Spanish and not exceed A3 size (297×420 mm).
Awards and Exhibition of the Works
The contest offers an attractive monetary incentive, with a first prize of 2,500 euros and a second prize of 1,200 euros. The winning and selected works will be published in a catalog and displayed in December at the Young Space of the Ibercaja Foundation, as part of the «Universe Goya» exhibition. This show, which will also include works from the two previous editions, will be inaugurated during the Zaragoza Comic Fair and will tour various Spanish locations in 2027.
Registration Process and Deadlines
The reception of proposals in digital format began on February 9, 2026, and will end on May 14 at 12:00 p.m. Interested individuals must register on the Ibercaja Foundation website and submit, along with scans of the pages (at a resolution of 150 pixels per inch), their academic curriculum of up to 40 lines in Word or PDF format. The jury’s decision will be announced in June.
With this sixth edition, the «Universe Goya» contest reaffirms the Ibercaja Foundation’s commitment to the promotion of culture and the support of new creative voices in the field of comics, having previously involved the participation of 265 young artists.
