Zaragoza Advances in Bridge Plan with Project Awards for Five Infrastructures

The municipal government of Zaragoza will award, in the coming weeks, the drafting of specific projects to work on the Stone, Iron, Volunteering, Cogullada bridges, and the mouth of the Huerva River. These five infrastructures will be the first to benefit from the city’s Bridge Plan, which was launched last November.

This was announced by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Energy, and Housing, Víctor Serrano. The area he oversees is responsible for the organization, management, and control of the conservation and maintenance of municipal highways, which include a total of 131 bridges and walkways distributed throughout the city.

The bridges and similar structures are periodically reviewed by the Infrastructure Conservation Service. The Bridge Plan now includes a special program that encompasses detailed technical inspections and the drafting of comprehensive intervention projects for each of the five selected elements.

The contract for the drafting of these projects is divided into four lots, the awarding of which is in the final phase following the public tender process:

  • Lot 1 (Cogullada Road Bridge over the railway): budget of 37,086.50 euros.
  • Lot 2 (Volunteer Walkways and the mouth of the Huerva River into the Ebro): budget of 56,325.50 euros.
  • Lot 3 (Iron Bridge): budget of 48,581.50 euros.
  • Lot 4 (Preliminary project for comprehensive repair of the Stone Bridge): budget of 57,838 euros.

In the first phase, the awarded contractors will conduct special inspections, which may include lifting equipment, drones, or aquatic means, as well as on-site and laboratory tests. In the case of the Cogullada Bridge, a new special inspection will not be carried out as there is a recent preliminary project completed by Adif.

In the second phase, complete technical projects will be drafted, which will include proposals for repair, enhancement, and promotion of each bridge.

For the Stone Bridge, designated as a Cultural Heritage Site (BIC), the preliminary project must comply with heritage and architectural requirements.

In the case of the Volunteer Walkway, special attention will be given to corrosion points, broken glass in the parapets, the state of the cables, and the pavement. Associated with this lot, a technical report will be prepared for the bridge at the mouth of the Huerva.

Councilor Víctor Serrano has reminded that these projects are part of a municipal strategy to improve and enhance the bridges in the city.
