The Aragonese capital will once again become the gastronomic epicenter of the croquette on Monday, May 25, with the grand finale of the VIII Croquette Contest of Zaragoza and the province. This well-established event in the Aragonese culinary calendar will bring together 23 establishments selected by popular vote.
The event will take place at the Aura Hospitality Complex in Zaragoza, where some of the most creative and innovative proposals from the current hospitality scene will face off before a professional jury that will choose the Best Croquette of Zaragoza and the province for 2026.
The contest highlights the exceptional culinary level of the Aragonese hospitality sector, featuring creations that combine tradition, local products, and culinary innovation. Among the finalists are proposals made with Jamón de Teruel DOP, Ternasco de Aragón IGP, borage, Teruel pork, and recipes inspired by international cuisine.
Croquettes with Aragonese Identity
One of the main stars of the event is once again the Aragonese product. In the category for Best Croquette made with Aragonese ingredients, contenders include “El cerdito valiente” from Basho, made with Teruel IGP pork and Ambar Export beer, and “Croquemuuuu” from Kentya, featuring stewed oxtail and Centenarian Garnacha.
Special attention will also be given to the categories dedicated to Jamón de Teruel DOP and Ternasco de Aragón IGP, where the finalist chefs reinterpret some of the most emblematic products of Aragonese cuisine.
Innovation, Creativity, and Options for All
Creativity will again be a central theme of the competition. Croquettes made with red shrimp, solid beer, bacalao al pilpil, or sobrasada with honey will compete in the innovative category, reflecting the evolution of a product that has transitioned from a traditional recipe to an authentic gastronomic laboratory.
Moreover, several of the finalist proposals feature gluten-free versions, and the jury will also grant a specific recognition for the best gluten-free croquette.
A Final with the Flavor of Aragon
The day will include tastings, pairings with Aragonese wines and beers, and a gathering between hoteliers, sponsors, journalists, and professionals in the sector before the award ceremony.
The VIII Croquette Contest of Zaragoza and the province is organized by El Gastrónomo Zaragozano and produced by Agencia Almozara, with support from numerous entities and brands associated with Aragonese gastronomy and products.
