Zaragoza has become the epicenter of international collaboration in the renewable hydrogen sector by hosting a delegation of Scottish companies. This meeting, organized by Hydrogen Scotland and coordinated by the Hydrogen Foundation of Aragon (FHA), aimed to strengthen a historical relationship between Aragon and Scotland that began in 2015, and to explore new opportunities for innovation and technological development.
The Scottish delegation was welcomed at the headquarters of the Government of Aragon by Mar Paños, General Director of Industrial Promotion and Innovation. During the session, the memorandum of understanding between the FHA and Hydrogen Scotland Ltd was renewed, a key agreement for advancing joint projects in R&D, sustainable mobility, and energy infrastructures. This agreement underscores the importance of Spain as a priority market in the Scottish Government’s export plan.
The event included a networking cocktail that facilitated direct exchanges between Aragonese and Scottish companies, thereby promoting the creation of new synergies and business opportunities in the field of renewable hydrogen.
Visits and exploration of innovative projects
The delegation had the opportunity to visit the FHA facilities, where they became familiar with hydrogen production, storage, and testing processes, as well as innovative pilot projects. The agenda continued with a visit to Kalfrisa, where thermal engineering solutions adapted to hydrogen were showcased.
Other stops included ARPA, specializing in modular systems for mobile applications, and Calvera, a European leader in high-pressure transport and storage. They also visited Zoilo Ríos, which has one of the first hydrogen stations integrated into a multi-energy hub in Spain, and Enagás, where advancements in the future hydrogen trunk network were presented.
Aragonese companies such as Lapesa, Carbotainer, Epic Power, Acciona, Exolum, Saica, Satel, Socotec, IDOM, SFICE, Inycom, and Grupo RIVI participated in B2B meetings with the Scottish delegation. These meetings focused on exploring collaborations in hydrogen logistics, engineering, digitalization, certification, and industrial solutions for the energy transition.
This meeting not only strengthens cooperation between Aragon and Scotland but also opens new pathways for the development of clean and sustainable technologies, positioning both regions as leaders in the transition to a hydrogen-based economy.
