The second edition of GastroGarnacha, part of the International Garnacha Fair, is successfully underway in Zaragoza, establishing itself as a key event for local wine tourism and gastronomy. Organized by Horeca Restaurantes Zaragoza and the Association of Cafés and Bars, the event brings together nearly 30 establishments offering tapas and menus paired with Garnacha wines and products from Aragón, running until June 7.
Expanding the Reach of Wine Tourism in Zaragoza
GastroGarnacha coincides with the International Garnacha Fair, taking place from June 4 to 7 at the Parque de Macanaz. This initiative is not confined to one location; rather, it extends across bars and restaurants in Zaragoza and its province, promoting local Aragonese products through their natural advocates: the hospitality sector. This decentralized approach allows the celebration to be experienced at multiple venues, enriching the visitor experience.
The organization is led by Horeca Restaurantes Zaragoza and the Professional Association of Cafés, Bars, and Similar Businesses, with the participation of almost 30 establishments. This event model strengthens the connection between gastronomy and tourism, transforming Zaragoza into an appealing wine tourism destination.
Culinary Offerings and Participation
The strong participation of both locals and tourists has been a hallmark of this edition of GastroGarnacha. During the initial days, attendees have explored a variety of offerings centered around Garnacha, an emblematic variety of Aragón. The offerings include tapas paired with a glass of Garnacha for €5.50 and menus at various price points, always featuring wine as the highlight and in collaboration with Alimentos de Aragón.
This formula has proven effective in attracting a diverse audience, combining the culinary experience with the discovery of local products, thus strengthening the alliance between hospitality, wineries, and producers.
Impact on the Hospitality and Tourism Sector
José María Lasheras, president of Horeca Restaurantes Zaragoza, emphasizes the sector’s ability to transform Aragonese products into unique culinary experiences. The public’s response has been positive, showing interest from both residents and visitors. Lasheras believes that Garnacha can serve as a promotional engine for Zaragoza and its province.
Meanwhile, José María Marteles, president of the Association of Cafés and Bars, highlights how the combination of a tapa and a glass of Garnacha facilitates access to wine culture, energizing establishments and supporting local products. Marteles notes a lively and participatory atmosphere, reflecting Zaragoza’s hospitable culture, which is warm and communal.
With the support of the City Council of Zaragoza and Zaragoza Turismo, GastroGarnacha is part of a broader strategy to promote wine tourism and gastronomy as economic and tourism drivers. The initiative not only strengthens the hospitality sector as a strategic ally but also cements Zaragoza’s position as a premier gastronomic and wine tourism destination.
