Tourism Contributed €4.107 Billion to Aragon in 2025

Tourism contributed €4.107 billion to the Aragonese economy in 2025, equivalent to 10.7 percent of regional GDP, and supported 67,500 jobs. These figures were at the center of remarks by the regional minister for the Environment and Tourism, Luis Biendicho, at the welcome event for the 6th Turespaña Convention, which brings together nearly 600 industry professionals in Zaragoza.

Rural, high-quality tourism at the core of Aragon’s tourism strategy

The 6th Turespaña Convention is being held in Zaragoza from October 20 to 22 under the theme “Do You Speak Global? International tourism as a driver of transformation”. The event examines the position of Spanish destinations in overseas markets, industry trends, and opportunities for collaboration among public administrations, businesses, and professionals.

During the official welcome at the Zaragoza Auditorium, Biendicho linked tourism’s economic importance to the diversity of Aragon’s territory and the activity of its municipalities. Aragon welcomed around 680,000 international tourists in 2025, according to figures presented at the event.

The minister advocated for a high-quality, year-round tourism model removed from overcrowding, capable of sustaining activity throughout the year. He also highlighted its role in preserving heritage and traditions, as well as in retaining population and economic activity in rural areas.

Aragon’s offering brings together snow and mountain attractions, natural areas, and historical, artistic, and religious heritage. Sites mentioned include Zaragoza, the Basilica and Cathedral of El Pilar, the Torreciudad sanctuary, and the San Juan de la Peña monastery, a combination that makes it possible to diversify tourism experiences throughout the year.

Zaragoza hosts Turespaña meetings with destinations and businesses

The opening ceremony also featured Zaragoza Mayor Natalia Chueca and Industry and Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu. Aragonese singer Juanjo Bona performed Villano, Mis Tías, and La Magallonera during the event.

Turespaña, the agency responsible for promoting Spain in international markets, uses the convention to connect its network of Spanish tourism offices abroad with destinations, businesses, and regional officials. The event makes it possible to plan international promotional initiatives and establish working contacts among the sector’s various stakeholders.

The program includes bilateral meetings, plenary sessions, presentations, and roundtables on Spain’s competitiveness in international markets. It also addresses the use of artificial intelligence in tourism marketing, the adaptation of international tour operations, social, economic, and environmental sustainability, and demand management.

The Government of Aragon, through the Department of Environment and Tourism, is organizing the welcome event on October 20 at the Zaragoza Auditorium. The City Council, through Zaragoza Turismo, will host the event scheduled for October 21 at the Central Market.
