Apator Strengthens Its Presence in Spain from Zaragoza After Its First Year

Polish technology group Apator has marked its first year of operations in Spain at an event in Zaragoza, where it operates through Apator Solutions Spain. The company, which specializes in smart metering systems and network automation, began building its local structure in the fall of 2025 and has established its operating base for the Iberian market in the Aragonese capital.

The event brought together customers, partners, group representatives and members of the Spanish team, led by Managing Director Pedro Melero. The Zaragoza operation is part of Apator’s international expansion strategy, aimed at strengthening its relationships with utility companies through a commercial and technical structure located close to its customers.

European manufacturing and technological security

One of Apator’s main competitive advantages in the Spanish market is its production and technology development model. According to information provided by the company, all its devices and systems are designed and manufactured in Europe, where it operates six production plants and seven research and development centers.

The company develops the electronics, communication technologies and software for its equipment in-house, enabling it to oversee the various stages of a product’s lifecycle, from its initial design through maintenance and after-sales service. This model is particularly relevant in a sector where smart meters are part of the infrastructure used to manage essential services such as electricity, gas and water supplies.

The origin of equipment, the security of IT systems and the ability to ensure their operation over extended periods are issues utility companies must consider when selecting suppliers. Apator places these features at the core of its commercial offering, against a European backdrop of growing focus on technological autonomy and the protection of critical infrastructure.

«For a utility company, choosing a meter supplier is a decision that shapes the next 10 or 15 years. During that time, it needs to know who designed the device, where it was manufactured, who has access to its software and who will respond when a fault occurs. With Apator, the answer to all these questions is the same: a European company with its own engineers and factories. In Spain, this also means having a local team in Zaragoza», says Maciej Wyczesany, CEO of Apator Group.

Zaragoza, a base for serving the Iberian market

Apator’s business includes smart electricity and gas meters, ultrasonic water metering devices from the Ultrimis family, and equipment for measuring thermal energy. Its offering also includes electrical grid automation systems, communication technologies and software platforms for remote reading, data collection and data management.

These solutions enable utility companies to access information on how their networks are operating and manage consumption more accurately. They also have applications in improving energy efficiency and managing electricity grids that incorporate renewable generation sources.

The group’s industrial scale is reflected in its production figures. According to company data, it manufactures around 2.5 million water meters, 1.1 million gas meters and 1 million electricity meters annually. Its products are sold in more than 60 countries.

During its first year of operations in Spain, Apator Solutions Spain has focused on understanding utility companies’ needs and building commercial relationships. The company identifies device reliability, compatibility with existing systems and the availability of technical support throughout their service life as among the sector’s main requirements.

The presence of a local team allows the group to serve its Spanish customers directly and convey their needs to its engineering and development departments. The company therefore positions its Zaragoza operation as a local structure for a market in which metering equipment must be integrated with existing infrastructure and remain operational for years.

Apator is headquartered in Poland and has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 1997. According to corporate information provided by the company, it employs approximately 2,300 people across 11 companies and holds a leading position in Poland’s smart metering market. Through its Spanish subsidiary, the group is expanding its international presence and using Zaragoza as a connection point with utility companies across the Iberian Peninsula.
