Aragón allocates 300,000 euros for quality agri-food products from Teruel
The Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of the Government of Aragón has resolved the call for grants to support the differentiated quality of food products from the province of Teruel. This initiative is part of the Teruel Investment Fund (FITE), established through an agreement between the Government of Aragón and the Ministry of Territorial Policy on July 22, 2022.
The grants, with a total allocation of 300,000 euros, have been awarded through the system of ordinary competitive bidding. The beneficiaries are the management bodies of the differentiated quality designations based in Teruel:
- Regulating Council of the Protected Designation of Origin Jamón/Paleta de Teruel and the IGP Cerdo de Teruel
- Regulating Council of the Protected Designation of Origin Melocotón de Calanda
The aim of the grants is to increase the added value of agri-food products from Teruel and improve the competitiveness of the stakeholders involved in their production and marketing. The supported projects focus on four main areas:
- Design, development, and implementation of management systems for quality designations
- Development and implementation of certification for compliance with the terms of reference
- Investments in entities registered with the management bodies linked to quality improvement
- Recognition, positioning, and promotion of differentiated quality designations
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, Javier Rincón, emphasized that “Jamón de Teruel, Cerdo de Teruel, and Melocotón de Calanda are much more than products: they are the image and brand of a province and a driver of employment and development.” Rincón added that “with these grants, we want to ensure that differentiated quality continues to be a hallmark of excellence recognized by all and a source of pride for Aragón.”
The minister attended the award ceremony of the XLI Ham Fair in Teruel, along with the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco.
