Aragón Assumes the Presidency of the National Network of Audiovisual Clusters with a Focus on Innovation and Competitiveness
The National Network of Audiovisual Clusters (REDCAU) has undergone a leadership change during the San Sebastián International Film Festival, where Adriana Oliveros, President of the Audiovisual Cluster of Aragón, took over from Miquel Rutllant to lead this organization that brings together over 700 Spanish companies in the sector. The handover took place on September 24, 2025, coinciding with the signing of a strategic agreement with Spain Film Commission.
During the ceremony held in San Sebastián, REDCAU and Spain Film Commission, represented by its President Juan Manuel Guimeráns, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at establishing a stable framework to attract film shoots, promote internationalization, and strengthen the competitiveness of the Spanish audiovisual sector.
Adriana Oliveros has outlined an agenda focused on consolidating what has been built and making a leap into the future. The new president emphasized the need to «place the industry at the center of the debate to capitalize on Spain’s commitment as a major filming location in Southern Europe,» advocating for innovation, the creation of quality jobs, and the attraction of international investment.
Sectoral Expansion Beyond Entertainment
The text highlights that the audiovisual sector has transcended its traditional boundaries of cinema, series, animation, and video games to extend into health, education, construction, retail, and tourism. This expansion is supported by technologies such as extended reality, artificial intelligence, and virtual production, which offer narratives, simulations, and immersive experiences that transform methods of working, learning, and consuming.
Main Challenges Identified
The new presidency has identified several challenges for the sector: advancing towards a more sustainable industry, strengthening local fabric, seizing the opportunities presented by generative artificial intelligence, and ensuring continuous training to accompany digital transformation. The aim is to articulate a national strategy that combines competitiveness with inter-territorial cooperation.
Economic Impact of the Sector
According to the COTEC 2025 Report on Cultural and Creative Sectors mentioned in the text, culture and creativity contribute more than 3.4% of the national GDP and employ nearly 700,000 people, establishing themselves as one of the most resilient and growth-potential fields.
Additionally, the economic impact study by Spain Film Commission confirms that every euro invested in international film shoots generates 9 additional euros in the Spanish economy. Between 2019 and 2022, this activity significantly contributed to the increase in Gross Value Added and the creation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
