Aragón has positioned itself as a leader in retail sales growth in Spain, registering a significant increase over the past twelve months. According to the National Statistics Institute, this rise reflects not only the strength of domestic demand but also the positive impact of public policies that support the local commercial sector.
Aragón doubles the national average in retail growth
In February 2026, retail sales in Aragón experienced a growth of 4.2% compared to the same month the previous year. This figure is particularly noteworthy as it doubles the national average, which stands at 2%. This performance positions Aragón as the leading region in commercial recovery, highlighting its ability to overcome current economic challenges.
The Volveremos program boosts local commerce
The success of retail in Aragón has been largely driven by the Volveremos program, an initiative of the Government of Aragón aimed at supporting the sector. During 2025, the program generated 98 million euros in purchases, thanks to a joint investment of 10 million euros (5 million provided by the Government of Aragón and 5 million by 62 municipalities in the region). This strategy has proven to be highly effective, generating more than ten euros in transactions for every euro invested.
Impact and future perspectives according to the commerce directorate
Carmen Herrarte, General Director of Commerce, Fairs, and Handicrafts, emphasized that «the government’s sector boost policies are working.» Herrarte stressed the goal of achieving a greater impact from the Volveremos program in 2026, emphasizing that the initiative is redirecting consumption from digital platforms towards local commerce. Additionally, she linked the growth to incoming investments that have generated employment and additional demand in the region.
