The Provincial Council of Teruel (DPT) participated this Wednesday in Brussels in the closure of the European projects TRACE and ECOTOURS, key initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable and circular tourism models linked to local communities, announcing the creation of a permanent network of tourism SMEs and discussing a roadmap for the sector.
European Collaborative Agreement
Within the framework of the TRACE and ECOTOURS projects, an agreement was presented to establish a network of 40 entities that includes partners, companies, and existing networks, based on best practices developed during these projects. The proposed roadmap encompasses crucial points such as:
- A micro-credentialing system and digital certifications for sustainability competencies.
- Guides for accessing financing and eco-labeling.
- The creation of a permanent innovation association in circular tourism.
Within the TRACE project, five Teruel-based companies have received direct benefits:
- Restaurante La Ojinegra (Alloza).
- Azafrán La Carrasca (Blancas).
- Hotel Restaurante Zamacén (Burbáguena).
- Cabezo Buñuel (Calanda).
- Ojalá Refugio de Paz (Martín del Río).
These companies received direct financial support of 7,200 euros per SME for environmental certifications and specialized consulting. Additionally, a total of 400 professionals have participated in training activities, including 15 local representatives.
Key Participants and Institutional Commitment
Among the participants in the event were prominent representatives from the European Commission (EISMEA), experts in sustainability, and benefiting SMEs such as Hotel Amigo (Belgium), Radisson Beach Hotel (Cyprus), and Spanish establishments like Casa Robinson and MVico. Furthermore, the DPT has reaffirmed its commitment to a model of smart rural tourism, focused on generating local employment and European cooperation. The TRACE project has been fundamental in facilitating access for Teruel SMEs to international networks and ecological transition tools.
