ARTECOR Monegros Launches Inclusive Exhibition at the Cartuja of Huesca

The ARTECOR Monegros association will inaugurate tomorrow at the Cartuja de Nuestra Señora de las Fuentes the exhibition ‘In the Footsteps of Bayeu’, a showcase that uses art as a tool for inclusion and rural development. This initiative coincides with World Down Syndrome Day and is part of the European project InclusiVET.

A large-format collaborative work

The exhibition presents an unprecedented work of 3 x 2 meters, composed of six independent canvases. This creation was collaboratively made by artists with and without disabilities, under the direction of artist Pep Ribé. The work stands out for its use of natural pigments, made from earth collected in Los Monegros, and explores color in an innovative way. Before the creation, the group of artists visited the Cartuja to learn about the pictorial legacy of Fray Manuel Bayeu and undertook an excursion to the natural surroundings of Los Monegros to collect the sediments necessary for the pigments.

The European project InclusiVET and its impact

The InclusiVET project is part of the Erasmus+ program, co-financed by the European Union, and includes participation from entities in Lithuania, Greece, Croatia, Chile, Peru, and Spain. In Spain, the Center for Innovation in Vocational Training of Aragon (CIFPA) coordinates the initiative, commissioning ARTECOR Monegros to conduct a course on cultural event management for artists with disabilities. Based in Alberuela de Tubo, ARTECOR Monegros works in rural areas, highlighting inclusive talent and demonstrating the viability of sustainable cultural projects.

Details of the inaugural event

The inaugural event of the exhibition will begin at 4:00 PM on Saturday, with an institutional opening led by representatives from ARTECOR, CIFPA, the Comarca of Los Monegros, and the Provincial Council of Huesca. Subsequently, the workshop and the InclusiVET project will be presented, followed by a poetic and explanatory tour of the six works, each accompanied by a poem inspired by its content. The day will conclude with the presentation of the «Tierras de Monegros» project, an exhibition of inclusive games developed by ARTECOR, and a toast open to the public.

Additionally, the exhibition has a traveling vocation and can be displayed in other locations upon request, thereby reinforcing ARTECOR Monegros’ commitment to accessible culture and generating opportunities in rural areas.
