Azcón visits QTS data centers in Virginia to anticipate technological needs
The president of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, visited the QTS data center complex located in Richmond, Virginia. During this visit, he learned about both the operational facilities and those under development, with the aim of understanding how these infrastructures are built and anticipating the future needs of the labor market and the technology sector in Aragon.
Azcón highlighted that the construction of the data centers will generate an incredible number of jobs starting in 2026. According to the latest study by the Basilio Paraíso Foundation, the construction will mean between 17,000 and 21,000 job positions from 2026 to 2029. In Aragon, there are currently approximately 50,000 people seeking employment.
Once the centers are built, the type of employment will be redirected towards data architecture, maintenance, and engineering. The report concludes that the centers will generate a total of 9,000 stable and well-paying jobs in their operational phase.
Visit to QTS facilities
The president visited two QTS campuses in Richmond that span over 115 acres. Thousands of people are working at the centers under construction, while the operational ones currently employ hundreds. Azcón exchanged thoughts with David Robey and Tag Greason, co-CEOs of QTS; Vince Barnett, head of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership; and other company executives.
QTS has announced the creation of a large data center campus in Calatorao under the name Project Rodes, with an investment of 11.8 million euros. The project includes a plot of 224 acres designated for the campus. It is estimated that it could generate up to 1,400 direct jobs in Calatorao and its surrounding area in the technology and construction sectors.
