Herrarte highlights Rural Multiservices as a successful model at the domestic trade meeting
Carmen Herrarte, General Director of Commerce, Fairs, and Crafts of the Government of Aragon, participated on November 5, 2025, in the II Domestic Trade Meeting in Andalusia, held in Antequera (Málaga). During the event, she highlighted Rural Multiservices as a successful model implemented in Aragon to revitalize commerce in small towns.
Herrarte emphasized the importance of strengthening commerce in small towns as a strategy to combat depopulation. She stated, «Our way of doing this is to work with multiservices that bring life to the villages,» rejecting passivity in the face of the problem.
The General Director clarified that, although multiservices do not constitute a complete solution to depopulation, they act as a «bypass» by boosting domestic tourism and enterprise development. These services generate dynamics that help reverse the negative trend and promote growth in rural areas.
The Rural Multiservices model was initiated by the Teruel Chamber of Commerce in 2003 and has established itself as a reference program in the country. Currently, it has 187 establishments distributed throughout Aragon: 113 in Teruel, 40 in Zaragoza, and 34 in Huesca.
