The exhibition «Eduardo Chillida. Dreaming the Space,» organized by Fundación Ibercaja, has concluded with remarkable success in attendance, attracting over 60,000 visitors in Zaragoza. This event was part of the commemorative activities marking the centenary of the birth of the renowned Basque sculptor.
The exhibition has provided a broad overview of the work of Eduardo Chillida, presenting a total of 120 pieces. Among them, sculptures of various sizes and materials have been included, such as plaster, alabaster, wood, wrought iron, reinforced concrete, and chamotte clay. The large-scale works, some reaching nearly 2 meters in height, have captured the visitors’ attention with their imposing presence.
In addition to the sculptures, the exhibition featured a selection of graphic works, drawings, and prints in ink, charcoal, and sanguine. The portraits, collages, and the «Gravitations» series, initiated in 1985, allowed the audience to explore the versatility and depth of the artist’s plastic thinking.
Chillida’s Values and Legacy
The exhibition has reflected the intrinsic values in Chillida’s work: beauty, freedom, dialogue, and harmony with nature. These elements have been fundamental for visitors to understand the relevance of his graphic work as an extension of his artistic thought.
Chillida, recognized for his deep connection to nature and his ability to engage with diverse elements, has left a legacy that continues to inspire new generations. His focus on balance and the relationship with the environment has been a recurring theme in his work, highlighting his capacity to integrate art and nature harmoniously.
International Projection of the Exhibition
After its success in Zaragoza, a selection of the exhibited works will travel to the Conde Duque Cultural Center in Madrid, where they will be available to the public until June. This tour will enable a greater number of people to enjoy and reflect on the work of one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century.
