II Cultural Heritage Days of Aragón Discuss International Recognition in Huesca

II Jornadas del Patrimonio Cultural Aragonés analyze international recognition

The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Government of Aragon will hold the II Jornadas del Patrimonio Cultural Aragonés on Wednesday, November 19, starting at 10:00 a.m. in the blue room of the Casino de Huesca. The event, directed by General Director Gloria Pérez, will address the theme «Our Cultural Heritage and Its International Recognition».

The conferences will focus on the representative list of World Heritage and the Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Aragon has four properties included on this list: the Mudejar architecture of Aragon, the Jacobean route of the Camino de Santiago, Pirineos-Monte Perdido (Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park), and the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Arc.

At the meeting of the Historical Heritage Council held in Rome at the end of October, Aragon presented the preliminary dossier for the nomination of the Castle of Loarre for World Heritage status. Gloria Pérez emphasized that the castle possesses «outstanding universal value as a masterpiece of military Romanesque» in its material authenticity and historical context. Additionally, the nomination of the jota for Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity will be recalled, with its declaration expected at the end of next year.

The social impact of heritage declarations in the territory will be analyzed, with a special focus on urban archaeology in Huesca. Experts will discuss significant findings such as the Roman forum and theater of Osca, the Islamic and Christian walls, and the hydraulic structures. The musealization of the Círculo Católico, declared a Cultural Interest Asset, will be presented as a strategic initiative for the conservation of Huesca’s urban heritage.

The day will feature a performance by a jota ensemble, a dramatization about the history of the Monastery of Sijena, and the presentation of the documentary «Cuando se giran las sombras», dedicated to the summer solstice faults of the valleys of Benasque, Sobrarbe, and Ribagorza. The Councillor for Education, Culture, and Sports, Tomasa Hernández, and the Mayor of Huesca, Lorena Orduna, will inaugurate the event. Augusto de BVocal will act as the presenter. The activities will conclude at 6:45 p.m. with closing remarks from the General Director. The conferences will continue next year in Teruel, focusing on the Mudejar style.
