Defense Technology Industry Generates €503 Million in Aragon

Companies belonging to the Spanish Association of Defense, Security, Aeronautics and Space Technology Companies (Tedae) generated revenue of €18.034 billion in 2025, up 11.6% from the previous year. In Aragon, revenue reached €503 million, placing the region sixth by turnover among those covered in the report prepared by PwC for the association.

The study attributes a total impact of €24.425 billion on Spain’s GDP to these industries, equivalent to 1.45% of the national economy. The estimate includes €10.807 billion in direct contribution, €8.459 billion linked to suppliers, and €5.160 billion resulting from consumption generated by workers’ income.

More jobs and uneven growth across activities

The companies analyzed accounted for 83,453 direct jobs in 2025, up 10.8% from a year earlier. Including indirect and induced employment, PwC estimates that 289,938 jobs were linked to their activity. The report also notes that 76% of workers had higher education qualifications and puts average compensation, including social security contributions, at around €77,000.

Aeronautics maintained the largest revenue volume, at €12.080 billion, with year-on-year growth of 6.2%. Defense and security reached €10.877 billion, up 16.2%, while the space sector totaled €1.416 billion, an increase of 9.5%. These figures cannot be added together because some activities, such as aeronautics and defense space, are included in more than one category.

The largest relative increases were recorded in naval defense, where revenue rose 46.4% to €1.682 billion, and land defense, which grew 22.2% to €2.631 billion. Defense aeronautics contributed €6.164 billion, while civil aeronautics accounted for €5.915 billion.

Madrid accounts for more than half of revenue

The geographic distribution shows a high degree of concentration. Madrid accounted for €9.501 billion, or 53% of the total, followed by Andalusia with €3.135 billion; the Basque Country with €1.270 billion; Castilla-La Mancha with €976 million; and Galicia with €747 million. Aragon followed with €503 million, ahead of Asturias, Navarre, Castile and León, and Catalonia.

Exports by Tedae companies reached €10.821 billion, or 60% of their consolidated revenue. The report also puts the direct and indirect impact on R&D&I at €2.812 billion and tax revenue associated with these activities at €8.107 billion.

Compared with 2019, revenue rose from €14.101 billion to €18.034 billion, a cumulative increase of 27.9%. PwC notes, however, that its calculations are based on public information and data provided by Tedae that have not been audited, meaning that the estimated impacts on GDP, employment, innovation, and tax revenue should be interpreted as estimates derived from the methodology used.
