Eight hundred students from Alcañiz have had the opportunity to learn about the History of Aragon in an innovative and engaging way through the comic «La Torre de la Concordia.» This publication, part of the collection «Milestones of Aragonese Identity,» was presented at an educational event that gathered young people from six educational centers at the Municipal Theatre of Alcañiz.
Educational Meetings with the Illustrator
The educational event stood out for the participation of around 800 students from Primary and Secondary education, who attended a series of meetings with David Guirao, the illustrator of «La Torre de la Concordia.» These sessions were organized with the support of the Alcañiz City Council and featured the presence of José María Fuster, General Director of Statutory Development of the Government of Aragon. The direct interaction with the illustrator allowed students to visually and didactically explore a crucial chapter of regional history.
The meetings not only provided a new perspective on teaching history but also fostered young people’s interest in Aragonese cultural heritage. The use of the comic as an educational tool underscores the commitment of local institutions to innovate in the way historical knowledge is conveyed.
The Concordia of Alcañiz in the Comic
«La Torre de la Concordia» focuses on a significant historical event: the Concordia of Alcañiz of 1412. This comic narrates the pacts and agreements that led to the election process of Fernando de Antequera as King of Aragon, culminating in the famous Compromise of Caspe. Through its pages, students were able to delve into the details of this historical process, gaining a better understanding of its relevance and implications for Aragonese identity.
The publication, edited by the General Directorate of Statutory Development of the Government of Aragon, aims not only to educate but also to inspire new generations to value and preserve their history. With this initiative, it is hoped that students will develop a deeper sense of belonging and pride in their cultural heritage.
