San Juan de Dios Hospital in Zaragoza Achieves Spain’s Most Demanding Digital Security Certification
San Juan de Dios Hospital in Zaragoza has become the first healthcare center in Aragon to obtain certification from the National Security Scheme (ENS) at its highest level. This recognition, regulated by Royal Decree 311/2022 and promoted by the National Cryptological Center (CCN-CERT), positions the hospital among the few Spanish healthcare facilities that achieve this level of data protection.
The high-level ENS requires the implementation of more than one hundred organizational, technical, and operational measures. The hospital has met requirements in areas such as incident management, access control, protection of technological infrastructure, data encryption, and ongoing staff training.
The purpose of the scheme is to ensure the protection of information systems and personal data against threats, unauthorized access, and incidents, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, availability, authenticity, and traceability of information.
Berta Sáez, the hospital’s managing director, emphasizes that the certification strengthens our commitment to providing a safe, reliable, and transparent environment for patients, professionals, and collaborators, and acknowledges the work of the Information Systems team.
Jorge Oliva, head of Information Systems, highlights that the high level of the ENS requires comprehensive security management, from technological infrastructure to internal processes and the digital culture of staff, considering the protection of information as a way to care for patients.
This certification facilitates interoperability with other administrations and healthcare entities, allows participation in technological innovation projects, and strengthens the trust relationship with patients. This achievement solidifies the hospital’s commitment to safe digital transformation, operational excellence, and the integration of technology in the service of comprehensive health.
