Criteria and Organization of the Contest
The competition, organized by the Provincial Association of Hospitality and Tourism of Huesca along with various entities, focuses on originality, technique, and the ability to synthesize product quality in a single bite. Innovation and economic viability are also valued, without losing sight of the respect for the traditional concept of the tapa. The jury is composed of prominent figures such as Carlos Lardiés, Javier García Antón, Luis Vaquer, Ángel Díez, and Franchesko Vera, who bring their experience and knowledge to the selection process.
Connection with World Tapas Day and Huesca’s Projection
The contest is held in alignment with World Tapas Day, an initiative aimed at highlighting the cultural and social value of this culinary format. This year, there are plans for «El Tapeo» to be recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The final celebration on June 29 at the Blecua and Viñas del Vero winery in Barbastro emphasizes the festive and social nature of the tapa, promoting gastronomy as a shared experience.
With its commitment to culinary innovation, Huesca seeks to establish itself as a benchmark in national gastronomy. The province not only hosts the Michelin Gala but also boasts an exceptional quality-price ratio and a high concentration of Michelin Stars per capita, reinforcing its position on Spain’s culinary map.
