The Hydrogen Foundation of Aragón recently conducted a new session of its H2 Tours at the Enagás facilities, focusing on the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone. This event highlights Aragón’s position as a leader in the development of renewable hydrogen, underscoring its importance for the future energy infrastructure of the country.
Boosting Renewable Hydrogen from Aragón
The H2 Tours, organized by the Hydrogen Foundation of Aragón, are strategic visits that connect stakeholders with key projects in the field of renewable hydrogen. The recent session at Enagás allowed attendees to learn about the company’s commitment to hydrogen and its role in the future Spanish Hydrogen Backbone. This project is crucial for establishing Aragón as an essential region in the deployment of sustainable energy infrastructures.
During the visit, Mar Paños, the General Director of Industrial Promotion and Innovation for the Government of Aragón, emphasized the strategic relevance of renewable hydrogen for the region’s industrial competitiveness. She underlined the need for collaboration between administrations, businesses, and knowledge centers to accelerate industrial decarbonization and promote innovation and quality employment.
The Spanish Hydrogen Backbone: An Ambitious Project
Enagás presented its focus on hydrogen as a key vector for decarbonization, highlighting its ability to integrate renewable energies and facilitate large-scale storage. The Spanish Hydrogen Backbone, which plans to develop 2,600 kilometers of pipelines, will include 191 kilometers in Aragón, solidifying the community as a strategic node in the European southwest hydrogen corridor.
The Conceptual Plan for Public Participation for the Backbone in Aragón commenced on April 6, featuring local authorities and Enagás CEO Arturo Gonzalo. This plan is deployed across 28 municipalities, underscoring the importance of European collaboration in the development of these infrastructures.
Innovation and Technology at Enagás’ Metrology Center
The visitors also explored Enagás’ Metrology and Innovation Center, where research and testing related to hydrogen are conducted. The Hyloop+ laboratory, set to open soon, stands out for its capability to calibrate hydrogen meters, ensuring the precision needed for a safe and efficient network.
The tour of the facilities enabled participants to learn about the processes and technologies that Enagás is implementing, addressing questions concerning the technical challenges of deploying the backbone network. The day concluded with a networking session, fostering idea exchange and the creation of synergies among attendees.
