IAM allocates 770,000 euros against gender violence in Aragón
The Aragonese Institute for Women has allocated 770,000 euros for training and prevention of gender violence through agreements with the 33 Aragonese comarcas. This initiative, framed within the State Pact against Gender Violence, represents a 9% budget increase compared to the previous year.
The Government of Aragón has formalized agreements with all Aragonese comarcas to develop training, awareness, and prevention actions. The director of IAM, María Antoñanzas, explained that the actions aim to «train professionals and young people, and carry out prevention and awareness campaigns.» The decentralized execution through the comarcas allows for «better attention to the demand and circumstances of each territory.»
The training will be directed at social service professionals and other groups within the comarca organizations. The content includes prevention and response to sexual assaults, trafficking of women and girls for sexual exploitation, forced marriages, pornography, gender identity and expression, social equality and non-discrimination, and building healthy relationships.
The program will also address online safety, prevention of online gender violence, excessive control, non-sexist communication, and self-defense against sexual violence. According to Antoñanzas, the training seeks to «provide useful tools to understand gender violence as a structural phenomenon, end stereotypes, and prevent the dissemination of sexist ideas, comments, and images.»
Expansion of Puntos Violeta
The IAM has expanded the network of Puntos Violeta for the second consecutive year, providing safe spaces that offer information, support, and advice on available resources for victims of gender violence. The goal for this year is to reach more than 60 locations, expanding the service that was previously offered to municipalities with more than 2,500 inhabitants, increasing the number of benefited populations from 31 to 48.
