Ibercaja to Sponsor the Chamber of Commerce of Zaragoza’s Auditorium for 20 Years
The financial entity Ibercaja and the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of Zaragoza signed a collaboration agreement under which the renovated auditorium of the chamber will be named Ibercaja Auditorium. The agreement, signed on September 5, 2025, will last for 20 years and reflects the financial entity’s commitment to the business fabric of Aragon.
The agreement was signed by Jorge Villarroya, President of the Chamber of Commerce, and Víctor Iglesias, CEO of Ibercaja. Villarroya expressed his gratitude, stating that this collaboration strengthens the historical ties between the two entities, which share the same service vocation towards the economic development of the region. For his part, Iglesias indicated that with this agreement, Ibercaja reaffirms its commitment to the productive fabric of Aragon, supporting one of the most relevant business entities in the community.
The future Ibercaja Auditorium is conceived as a multifunctional and dynamic space, designed to host conferences, workshops, and business, cultural, and social events. The space is set to once again become a symbol of the economic vitality of Zaragoza and its international projection. The auditorium will be operational in the autumn of 2026, following the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation works.
Historical Context of the Building
The building that houses the Chamber of Zaragoza opened its doors in 1941 as the venue for the Fair of Samples, designed by Aragonese architect Regino Borobio. Over the decades, it became a reference point for businesses and an iconic space for the economic and social life of the city. In June 2023, the building suffered a fire that affected its facilities. Most of the facilities became operational again in September 2024, except for the auditorium, which remains inoperable.
Rehabilitation Project
The rehabilitation of the auditorium is being led by the firm Bau Arquitectura, descendants of the original architect Regino Borobio. The project faces the challenge of updating this historic space while maintaining its original essence and equipping it with the versatility and technology needed for contemporary events.
Present at the signing ceremony from the Chamber of Commerce, in addition to President Villarroya, were the General Director of Commerce, Fairs, and Handicrafts of the Government of Aragon Carmen Herrarte, Vice Presidents Berta Lorente and María López, Executive Committee members Íñigo de Yarza and Ignacio Montaner, General Director José Miguel Sánchez, Deputy Director Nieves Ágreda, and Deputy Secretary Paz Montenegro. Accompanying the CEO from Ibercaja were the Director of Business Banking Teresa Fernández, the Territorial Director in Aragon Antonio Lacoma, and the Director of Communication, Brand, and Institutional Relations Enrique Barbero.
