The Research and Technology Center for Food and Agriculture of Aragon (CITA) has launched the European project LIFE Support for Nitrate Governance through Citizen Participation Tools (LIFE NITRAZENS). This initiative aims to create a sustainable and transferable model to mitigate nitrate pollution caused by inadequate agricultural practices and organic waste management, leading to environmental degradation such as the eutrophication of lakes and reservoirs or the deterioration of drinking water quality.
LIFE NITRAZENS has a total budget of €1,989,165, 60% of which is funded by the European Union, with €283,388 allocated to CITA. The project will begin in September 2025 and last for three years.
