Javier Rincón Highlights the Strategic Role of the Aragonese Meat Sector
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, Javier Rincón, visited the facilities of Cárnicas Cinco Villas in Ejea de los Caballeros (Zaragoza). He was accompanied by Amparo Cuéllar, General Director of Innovation and Food Promotion. During the meeting, the department heads learned firsthand about the production processes, investments in innovation, and sustainability measures of the company.
Rincón emphasized that «the meat sector is a strategic pillar of the Aragonese agri-food system» and highlighted that Cárnicas Cinco Villas, part of the Vall Companys Group, serves as «a clear example of how innovation, efficiency, and commitment to the territory create jobs and rural development.» The minister stressed that the Aragonese agri-food sector demonstrates «that it is possible to be competitive and sustainable at the same time,» consolidating Aragon as «a reference food power.»
Cárnicas Cinco Villas boasts one of the most advanced pig processing plants in Europe. The facility has the capacity to process 12,000 pigs a day and markets its production in more than 40 countries.
Aragon positions itself as a leader in national pig production. The meat sector represents 40% of the total value of the Aragonese primary sector’s production, with a model of integration and biosanitary control that serves as a reference at the European level. Furthermore, the sector plays an increasing role in exports and in the generation of industrial employment in rural areas.
