Jorge Azcón Highlights Motostudent Unizar’s Innovation in Aragón

The President of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, visited the campus of the School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA) at the University of Zaragoza on Monday to learn about the work of the Motostudent Unizar team. The institutional visit was attended by the Rector, Rosa Bolea, and the Minister of Employment, Science and Universities, Claudia Pérez.

The Motostudent Unizar team is participating in the VIII edition of Motostudent, an international motorcycle competition held at MotorLand Aragón. The students have developed two motorcycles: a gasoline-powered one weighing 80 kilos with the capability for 9 laps at 200 km/h, and an electric one weighing 140 kilos with a range for 7 laps at the same speed.

The 16 students on the team, coming from Mechanical Engineering, Electronic and Automatic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Journalism, and Finance and Accounting, have designed and manufactured between 75% and 80% of the parts for both motorcycles. In addition to technical development, they have also been responsible for seeking sponsors and communicating the project.

According to President Azcón, «the Motostudent Unizar team is a clear example of knowledge transfer and innovation» from the University, highlighting that it is «a project in which students not only learn theory, but also manage to apply it practically and build a motorcycle.»

The leader emphasized «the passion of the students» as a distinguishing factor, stating that «outside their academic activity, they invest hours and hours of work to build these motorcycles.» He also highlighted the employability of the participants, noting that «they are highly sought-after students in the job market» and that «many of those who have participated in this competition are working with major teams worldwide.»

Motostudent is an international competition that was launched in Aragón in 2009 and is held every two years at the Motorland Aragón circuit. Throughout its eight editions, representatives from 25 countries across four continents have participated, with 450 university teams and 20,000 students from 57 international universities. In this VIII edition, 85 teams from 19 countries will compete in the gasoline and electric categories.
