Mudéjar Territory, in collaboration with the Zaragoza Provincial Council, has launched the 2026 edition of its thematic routes, an ambitious program that encompasses 49 destinations organized into 25 itineraries and 40 dates. This launch coincides with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the declaration of the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a milestone that will be commemorated with a series of cultural activities and an expanded tourism offer.
Territorial and Sustainable Focus in the 2026 Routes
The 2026 routes are distinguished by their territorial focus, integrating local guides and professionals who enrich the experience with culinary and craftsmanship displays. Since its inception in 2022, the project has attracted more than 3,500 participants, establishing itself as a sustainable tourism initiative where the visitor is the protagonist. This approach not only promotes tourism but also supports the local economy by highlighting indigenous products and traditions.
The program is organized into two main categories. The Mudéjar Territory Villages offer 15 itineraries across six themes, exploring Islamic Andalusian tradition from the 8th to the 17th century. These routes provide access to spaces normally closed to the public, such as historical towers, and offer tastings of local cuisine and century-old crafts. On the other hand, the UNESCO World Heritage Route includes a special itinerary that visits Tobed, Cervera de la Cañada, and Calatayud, as well as emblematic monuments in Zaragoza.
Practical Details and Commemorative Activities
Reservations for the routes are open on the official website, with the first tour scheduled for February 28, visiting locations such as Daroca, Villafeliche, and Terrer. The visits and gastronomic presentations are free of charge, thanks to the sponsorship of Mudéjar Territory, and there is an option to arrange transportation from Zaragoza. Additionally, personalized routes are available upon request and prior reservation.
In commemoration of the 25th anniversary, Mudéjar Territory has prepared a calendar of cultural activities that includes the annual meeting of World Heritage managers in the fall of 2026, special scholarships, communication campaigns, and an educational project about UNESCO heritage aimed at local schoolchildren and adults. These activities aim not only to celebrate the Mudéjar legacy but also to educate and raise awareness within the community about the importance of its conservation.
