Sabiñánigo Hosts a Conference on Hydrogen and Renewable Energies for Industry
The Hydrogen Foundation of Aragón, in collaboration with the Town Hall of Sabiñánigo and the high-Gállego Business Association, organized the conference «Energy Challenges and Opportunities for the Aragonese Industry» on October 21, 2025. The meeting brought together business leaders and specialized technicians to analyze the opportunities that hydrogen technologies offer to the regional industry.
The session featured the participation of Mar Paños, General Director of Industrial Promotion and Innovation of the Government of Aragón, as well as companies based in Sabiñánigo and other locations in the province of Huesca. There was a sharing of experiences, and innovative projects for green hydrogen generation and decarbonization of industrial processes were presented.
Among the participating companies were DH2Energy and Ercros, both members of the Foundation’s Board. Elena Simón, director of the Ercros plant in Sabiñánigo, outlined two initiatives developed under the company’s 3D Strategic Plan: the construction of a semi-industrial pilot plant to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis with renewable energy, and the installation of a dual burner (natural gas/hydrogen) in a steam boiler, which generates an estimated savings of 1,400 tons of CO₂ annually.
The Hydrogen Foundation of Aragón presented the Hy4AR project, designed to enhance the strategic positioning of logistics, aerospace, and industrial companies in Aragón by analyzing the current and future demand for hydrogen as a sustainable energy vector. The institutional representation included Berta Fernández (Mayor of Sabiñánigo), Mar Paños, Beatriz Peñarrubia (President of the High Gállego Business Association), and José María Santa Bárbara (Managing Director of the Hydrogen Foundation of Aragón).
