The Zaragoza Provincial Council has opened the XXXVI edition of the Santa Isabel Awards for narrative and poetry, offering a grant of 5,000 euros for each category. These calls aim to promote literary creation in Aragon, with a submission deadline that ends on April 23.
Open Calls for Aragonese Writers
The Santa Isabel Awards are aimed at individuals over the age of 18 who have been born or are registered in Aragon for at least one year. Each author can submit up to two distinct works, provided they are original and unpublished, written in Spanish and have not been previously awarded. The theme of the works is free, allowing writers to explore a wide range of ideas and styles.
Evaluation and Cultural Commitment
The jury of the awards will evaluate the works based on their quality, originality, creativity, rhythm, narrative coherence, conceptual and linguistic innovation, as well as literary technique and style. Charo Lázaro, Deputy Delegate for Culture, has highlighted the importance of these awards in fostering literary creation and making local talent visible. According to Lázaro, these initiatives are part of a diverse cultural program that seeks to bring culture closer to all municipalities in the province.
History of Winners and Submission of Works
In previous editions, the narrative award has recognized authors such as Juan Luis Saldaña and Patricia Esteban, while poets such as Angélica Morales and Octavio Gómez Milián have been awarded in poetry. Interested parties must submit their documentation preferably via electronic means, and the complete regulations are available on the National Subsidies Base. These awards not only offer a financial incentive but also the opportunity to publish the winning work, thereby consolidating the Provincial Council’s commitment to literary culture in Aragon.
