The global conversation about artificial intelligence is focused on large investments and geopolitical disputes. However, away from that noise, initiatives are emerging that demonstrate how this technology can transform everyday areas and expand opportunities for groups distanced from the digital revolution.
Fundación Querer and Fundación Hiberus have concluded the pilot program Menudos Techies para Educación Especial, bringing artificial intelligence closer to children with special educational needs through a practical and tailored approach.
The program highlights that digital inclusion must ensure that students with different abilities can understand and interact with technological tools autonomously and safely.
Based on a previous proposal for neurotypical students, the 12-session program was carried out in Madrid and Zaragoza, where students learned to interact with conversational tools, generate content, and understand technological risks. This pragmatic approach considers AI as a support tool to reinforce capabilities and foster autonomy.
The results of the pilot were positive, showing high levels of participation and understanding. However, the need to strengthen critical thinking and digital safety was identified. The ability to interpret information and use technology judiciously is becoming a necessary skill in the professional environment.
The program includes the development of digital autonomy and active participation through multisensory learning and visual supports. A guide for families was also created to accompany learning from home. The delivery of diplomas marks the conclusion of this first phase of the project, emphasizing the importance of introducing AI into educational environments with an inclusive and useful approach.
Projects like this serve as reminders that technological transformation depends not only on its sophistication but also on its ability to create opportunities for participation.
