Teruel Hosts The Wave Hackathon with Over 100 Young Participants on February 25

On February 25, Teruel will become the epicenter of Aragonese innovation with the celebration of the Hackathon The Wave «Hacking the future». This event, which aims to enhance the young talent of the region, will be held at the campus of the University of Zaragoza in Teruel. This year’s edition introduces a significant territorial expansion, extending to all three Aragonese provinces, promising a broader impact on the local innovation ecosystem.

Youth Participation and Multidisciplinary Approach

More than 100 students from universities and vocational training will gather in Teruel to participate in this hackathon. Coming from institutions such as the University of Zaragoza (Teruel Campus), IES Bajo Aragón from Alcañiz, and IES Segundo de Chomón, the young participants will form multidisciplinary teams. Their goal will be to solve real challenges using emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence.

These teams will collaborate to address problems posed by the Provincial Council, as well as by financial entities, technology and industrial companies, and organizations in the aerospace and aeronautics sector. The challenges are specifically designed for the local context, ensuring that the proposed solutions have a direct and tangible applicability in the region.

Organization and Prizes to Foster Innovation

The Hackathon The Wave is powered by Microsoft and organized by the Technological Institute of Aragon (ITA) and Tecnara. The University of Zaragoza actively collaborates by providing necessary spaces and involving its students in this initiative. To motivate participants, prizes of €1,000 will be awarded for first place, €500 for second place, and €250 for third place, intended for the development of the winning projects.

Regional Program Expansion

Following the event in Teruel, the hackathon program will continue in Huesca on March 11 and in Zaragoza on April 13 and 14. These activities will precede the congress The Wave 2026, which will be held from April 14 to 16 at the Zaragoza Congress Palace. The day in Teruel will feature Juan Capilla as the facilitator and an inspiring talk by physicist and science communicator José Luis Oltra, ensuring an enriching experience for all attendees.
