The University of Zaragoza, the Government of Aragon, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have launched an innovative training program in artificial intelligence, aimed at students, teachers, researchers, and administrative staff. This joint effort seeks to accelerate training in AI and cloud computing across the university community, with the support of the Regional Minister for Employment, Science, and Universities, Claudia Pérez Forniés.
Access to Courses and Advanced Tools
Starting in the first quarter of 2026, the university community will have free access to AWS Skill Builder courses, which offer training in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and advanced AWS tools. In addition, on February 11, 2026, the University of Zaragoza will host a generative AI hackathon using AWS PartyRock, a free tool that facilitates the creation of generative applications.
Support for Research and Development
The University has established the Cloud Research Unit (CRU), coordinated by the Vice-Rectorate for Digital Strategy and AI, to provide support to research groups through the use of AWS infrastructure and services at no cost. This unit will offer training and technical assistance, as well as create a repository of projects and organize an excellence day to recognize outstanding work, including undergraduate and master’s thesis projects.
Development of Advanced Projects
In collaboration with the Government of Aragon, the IA Developer Hub will be launched, an environment that will allow students to develop advanced projects with professional technology and receive specialized support. This program will be complemented by specific training in data centers, provided in collaboration with AWS.
Claudia Pérez Forniés emphasized the importance of embracing the technological revolution to enhance employability and competitiveness, highlighting the democratization of access to artificial intelligence. The rector of the University of Zaragoza, Rosa Bolea, celebrated that the institution is a pioneer in Spain in implementing such ambitious initiatives. Iñaki Bilbao, head of Educational Programs and Tech Alliance at AWS in Spain, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to invest €15.7 billion in the region by 2033.
