Zaragoza has been recognized for the second consecutive year as a leader in climate action by CDP-ICLEI, highlighting its commitment to sustainable projects and collaboration in international networks.
Zaragoza has implemented a series of strategies in response to climate change that have validated its position in the A List. Among these, the electrification of public transport stands out with the renewal of buses and the expansion of the tram fleet. Incentives for the acquisition of electric taxis and the expansion of infrastructure for electric vehicles are also part of these efforts.
The city has placed a strong emphasis on improving the efficient use of energy in homes, thanks to European funds. Projects such as The Bosque de los Zaragozanos stand out within the re-naturalization efforts, along with the implementation of natural solutions to manage urban greenery, effectively transforming the city’s infrastructure to better face climate change.
Institutional Vision and Cooperation
Zaragoza joins the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy and participates in the Mission of One Hundred Climate-Neutral Cities of the EU. The development and monitoring of a Climate Change Adaptation Plan, with risk assessment and measurable objectives, reinforces its administrative commitment to the environment. Moreover, sharing the list with cities like Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo, and London places Zaragoza in a global context of climate leadership, implementing four times more measures than cities not included in the A List.
