The Provincial Council of Zaragoza Doubles Family Reconciliation Aid, Benefiting 168 Municipalities with 400,000 Euros
The Provincial Council of Zaragoza distributed 400,000 euros among 168 municipalities in the province through the second call of its family reconciliation plan. This initiative doubled the budget compared to the previous year when 350,000 euros were allocated to 141 local governments.
The grants aimed to support local governments in organizing leisure activities for children and young people during school breaks, thereby facilitating family reconciliation while parents were working. The plan allowed great flexibility for each municipality to tailor activities to the specific needs of their residents.
Among the funded initiatives were diverse projects such as Ecoarte in Anento, which connects nature and diversity; summer schools and inventors in Bujaraloz; technology and sports camps in Cetina; baby playroom services in Ejea de los Caballeros; archaeological astronomy days in Gotor; and the activity ‘Passport to the World’ in Tosos.
Institutional Assessment of the Program’s Impact
Manuela Berges, the delegated deputy for Equality, explained that the program’s great reception in its first edition led to the doubling of the budget in 2025. She emphasized that these grants contribute to youth retention, improve the quality of life for families, and stimulate the local economy by hiring companies and personnel to carry out the activities.
In 2024, the first call of the plan granted aid totaling 350,000 euros to 141 municipalities, with the initial budget increasing by 150,000 euros due to high demand. The funded activities included summer and Christmas camps, painting and cinema workshops, sports activities, playrooms, and outdoor workshops.
