ITA to Offer Autonomous Vehicle Developed for Business Experimentation at MotorLand
The Aragonese Technological Institute (ITA) will make available to Aragonese companies the autonomous vehicle developed in its Laboratory for Autonomous and Connected Vehicles to conduct experiments at the facilities of MotorLand. The Vice President of the Government and Minister of the Presidency, Economy and Justice, Mar Vaquero, and the President of MotorLand Aragón, Manuel Blasco, were informed of the details of this project, developed since 2021.
Mar Vaquero emphasized that «the development of this vehicle demonstrates that the collaboration between institutions such as ITA, TechnoPark, and MotorLand works. It will represent a significant advancement in safety and mobility. It positions us at the forefront in this aspect.»
The laboratory developed an autonomous car based on three main axes implemented between 2021 and 2024. These components include a state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle, the sensorized and digitized MotorLand circuit with 5G communications developed alongside AST, and a realistic simulator that incorporates a functional vehicle model, a three-dimensional model of the circuit, and other mobile entities such as cars and pedestrians.
These elements allow for «testing the performance of autonomous driving systems or driving assistance systems in a safe and replicable manner.»
Services and Benefits for Companies
Companies will have access to ongoing testing and experimentation services in the fields of autonomous and connected mobility, as well as hydrogen technologies. ITA will specifically work with sectors of public works and construction machinery, agricultural machinery, manufacturers of vehicles for logistics and service operations, manufacturers of drones and personal mobility vehicles, as well as logistics operators and urban goods distribution.
Manuel Blasco described the news as «extraordinary because 300 ITA workers with TechnoPark and MotorLand will help Aragon advance in this key aspect for the future.»
ITA is developing a second phase of the project that will extend until 2028, which will entail «the establishment at TechnoPark of a permanent testing and experimentation model that will operate in three areas: autonomous and connected mobility in hostile environments, hydrogen technologies for mobility, and verification and validation of embedded systems for the automotive industry.»
