The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, has announced the creation of the future Municipal Professional Conservatory of Music, a project aimed at completing the training of the city’s young musicians, reinforcing local talent, and expanding the municipal cultural offerings. The announcement was made during the first session of the State of the City Debate.
The new center will be located in the Cuartel de Palafox and will allow students who complete Basic Education to continue their professional training in Zaragoza without the need to relocate to other cities.
According to the mayor, this initiative seeks to establish a comprehensive educational pathway within the municipal offering, optimizing the investment made in basic music education and providing a training continuity that is currently limited for many students.
Six more years of specialized training
The implementation of Professional Education will enable students to continue their learning for six additional years, until they are approximately 18 years old. The City Council believes that this continuity will promote greater artistic and interpretative development, as well as strengthen the commitment of students and their families to musical education.
The creation of the conservatory responds to a historical demand from the educational community and the Zaragoza music sector. Currently, many young people who complete basic education must leave the city or interrupt their studies due to a lack of places for professional courses.
A boost for Zaragoza’s cultural activity
In addition to its educational dimension, the new conservatory will have a direct impact on the municipal cultural programming. The introduction of professional education will allow for more intense artistic activities, including concerts, auditions, collaborations, and public performances that will enrich Zaragoza’s cultural life.
With this project, the City Council aims to strengthen the musical ecosystem of the city, promote the retention of young talent, and establish Zaragoza as a reference point in artistic and musical training.
