Plans for a different New Year’s Eve. Experiences in Spain to end the year

Rural houses, inns, dreamlike natural landscapes... Aragon offers many different possibilities to spend a perfect New Year's Eve. Get ready to know many places where you can change the year in a special way, spread over the three provinces.

It seems unbelievable, but the year is coming to an end and there are only two weeks left in December. Have you already planned what you are going to do on New Year’s Eve? Keep in mind that this time it falls on a weekend, which allows you to extend your plans a little bit. If you are one of those who leave things to the last minute and your answer is no, don’t worry because we have prepared a list of New Year’s Eve getaways in Aragon to inspire you. There is something for all tastes and budgets, so you are sure to find one that you like. Here we go!

A rural house in a privileged natural environment

A classic to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Aragon. Whether as a couple, with your family or with a group of friends, ending the year in a rural house is always a good choice. Depending on your plans, you can also choose between a rural house that gives you some privacy to be able to have a good cotillion or another in a natural environment where you can go hiking or cycling if you wake up without a hangover on January 1st. We assure you that starting a new year in contact with nature is one of the best ways to do it.

As you know, Aragon has a great offer of rural houses, so instead of some in particular we are going to recommend three areas: the Matarraña in the province of Teruel, the Ordesa Valley in the province of Huesca (we love Torla), and the region of Tarazona and Moncayo in the province of Zaragoza.

One of the most beautiful villages in Spain

Up to thirteen Aragonese towns are included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Just browse the list and choose one where you want to spend New Year’s Eve… or even start from the beginning to visit one every year.

The old town of Ainsa, the walls of Albarracín, the rocky landscapes of Alquézar, the palace-houses of Calaceite, the castle of Valderrobres… we can’t think of many better places to spend New Year’s Eve in Aragon and where to start 2022.

If you want to know what to do in each of them, take a look at this post.

A spa

Almost certainly, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of December 31 is hustle and bustle, partying, crowds or loud music. Why not turn it around and start the year in the most relaxed way possible? If you are seduced by the idea, your ideal getaway at this time of year is to a spa.

Aragon has ten, and they combine thermalism, hospitality and nature, a very difficult offer to beat. Surrender to it and choose yours, there are six in the province of Zaragoza, two in Huesca and two in Teruel, and here we talk about all of them.

The city of Jaca and its surroundings

This area of the Huesca Pyrenees is also a good place to escape to at the end of the year. Its wide range of high quality restaurants make it easy to find a place to celebrate the last dinner of 2021, just make a reservation to make sure you have a place.

And once the chimes ring, you can stroll around the cathedral or lie down on the grass next to the Citadel to welcome the new year looking at the stars (be warm!).

If you don’t go to bed too late, you can make the most of January 1 by visiting the Canfranc train station or going horseback riding in the Pyrenees.

A ski slope

Did you think we were going to forget about the white sport? Of course not! Skiing is another of the end-of-year options chosen by many Aragonese. The ski resorts of Aramón and Astún-Candanchú open their doors on December 31 and January 1 (we recommend that you check the schedules before you go) and even organize special activities such as descents with torches, DJ sessions and parties to celebrate the arrival of the new year.

And if you like the snow but prefer a quieter plan, in Candanchú and in the Somport you have several areas where you can practice Nordic skiing and enjoy the silence and tranquility of the mountain.

Aragon’s Hospederias

The Government of Aragon has a series of hotel establishments characterized by their uniqueness and high level of quality, located in buildings of special heritage interest or in privileged scenic, monumental or natural surroundings.

If for the end of the year you are looking for the charm of a rural house combined with the comfort of a hotel, and all this in an architectural space with history… the inns of Aragon are your ideal destination. In Aragon there are six: El Mesón de la Dolores, Loarre, Roda de Isábena, Sádaba, the Palace of Allepuz and the Monastery of Rueda, and all of them are charming places where you will spend a weekend you will not forget.

Imagine spending New Year’s Eve in Aragon in an inn and start 2022 in a palace or a castle, where you will also eat very well because of the care with which the gastronomy is treated in the inns, based on the traditional dishes of each area. And, to digest, there is nothing better than touring the surroundings in which they are built and soak up their historical, cultural and natural heritage.
