Second International Garnacha Fair and Sustainable Gastronomy: Zaragoza as the Global Epicenter of Garnacha, Celebrating Wine, Sustainability, and Culture

On the banks of the Ebro River, where history blends with the wine landscape, Zaragoza solidifies its position as the World Capital of Garnacha. From June 4 to 7, 2026, the city will host the II International Garnacha and Sustainable Gastronomy Fair at Parque de Macanaz, an event that is gaining momentum following the overwhelming success of its inaugural edition, which attracted over 40,000 visitors.

This festival is not just a wine tourism event; it embodies Zaragoza’s ambitious strategy as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, combining heritage, innovation, and a genuine commitment to sustainability. Mayor Natalia Chueca recently presented the event in Madrid, highlighting its potential to position the Aragonese capital as a gastronomic and wine tourism reference in Spain and Europe.

Aragonese Garnacha: A Sense of Terroir

Garnacha, the flagship variety in Aragon, expresses its Mediterranean character here: powerful, elegant, and deeply connected to the landscape. The Denominations of Origin Campo de Borja (with its century-old vineyards and silky reds), Cariñena (more mineral and fresh), and Calatayud (high-altitude garnachas that are complex and long-lived) will take center stage.

This edition will feature invited wineries from Vinos de Madrid and other Aragonese references such as Somontano and Pago Aylés, promoting exchange between regions. Visitors will be able to taste and purchase wines directly from the booths at Parque de Macanaz, a privileged location next to the Garnacha Garden (planted with vines from the three DOs) and offering spectacular views of the Basilica del Pilar.

A Sensory and Participatory Program

The fair will extend its duration to four days and offer a complete experience:

  • Wineries booths for tastings and direct sales.
  • Picnic area, boutique market, terrace with views, and a garnacha tunnel five meters long with immersive effects.
  • New photocall featuring giant wine glasses and identifying arches for each DO.
  • Vibra Garnacha Stage with live performances from local groups such as The Cucumbers, Mabuse, Los Compayos, La Máquina de Turing, The Bronson, Erik Romero, Sr. Isasi, and DJ sets.

In parallel, the Excellence and Inspiration Meetings (June 3, 4, and 5) will take place, featuring a high-level professional program that connects wine with business, architecture, and design. Among the speakers will be renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, Marta Thorne, Enrique Valero, and other international experts.

From May 29 to June 8, the GastroGarnacha initiative will extend the celebration in bars and restaurants throughout the city with special tapas, paired menus, and promotions for “tapa + wine.”

Authentic and Sustainable Wine Tourism

Zaragoza invites you to experience garnacha beyond the fair: routes through historic vineyards, visits to unique wineries, and local gastronomy that respects the territory. All of this takes place in a city with excellent connectivity, a rich heritage, and a strong commitment to sustainability.

The International Garnacha Fair is shaping up to be one of the most attractive wine tourism events on the Spanish calendar for 2026: a weekend where wine becomes culture, landscape, innovation, and shared celebration.

If you love wine, good food, and soul-stirring travel, mark the dates now. In Zaragoza, we do not just taste garnacha; we breathe it, celebrate it, and understand its purest essence.

Cheers from the heart of Aragon!
