The Torreciudad Shrine, in the Huesca Pyrenees, drew nearly 7,000 people for the 34th Marian Family Gathering. Held on September 12, the event concluded celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the current church and once again put the site on the map for religious and cultural tourism in Aragon.
Marian Family Gathering draws thousands of pilgrims to Torreciudad
Held under the theme ‘A Gathering of Families Around the Mother’, the event brought together families from across Spain. It was presided over by Monsignor Alejandro Arellano Cedillo, dean of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota.
The program included the celebration of Holy Mass, offerings by families, schools and parishes, the presentation of children to the Virgin Mary, musical performances and gatherings focused on family and marriage.
Attendees also included the regional minister for Environment and Tourism, Luis Biendicho; the director general for Tourism and Hospitality, María Nogueras; and the first vice president of the Aragon Parliament, Carmen Rouco.
Torreciudad concludes the church’s 50th anniversary with tourism promotion for Aragon
The 34th Marian Family Gathering served as the closing event for celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Torreciudad’s current church. The shrine welcomes visitors and pilgrims throughout the year, combining its religious dimension with the site’s cultural, heritage and tourism value.
Turismo de Aragón set up a promotional and information booth at the shrine to showcase a range of experiences across the region. The space highlighted ‘Aragón con alma’, a tourism offering centered on places and experiences connected to the region’s identity, essence and emotions.
Torreciudad’s organizers have said they intend to strengthen cooperation with promotional initiatives led by the Aragon government’s Department of Environment and Tourism. In that context, ‘Aragón con alma’ is positioned as a benchmark for attracting visitors both to the shrine and to Aragon as a whole.
