The Government of Aragon will increase the Department of Education’s budget by around 20% in the region’s 2027 budget. The announcement, made by President Jorge Azcón on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Teruel’s Vega del Turia Secondary School, places education funding among the region’s upcoming budget decisions.
Aragon plans 20% increase in education spending for 2027 budget
The increase will be included in the next regional budget proposal and is intended to cement a structural shift in Aragon’s education policies. Azcón said the measure would be defined “with data, figures and budgets.”
The plan includes investment in education infrastructure and the consolidation of higher pay for teachers. The president argued for ensuring adequate compensation so that teachers feel valued and enjoy professional standing.
He also said Aragon will have more teachers than ever, despite having fewer students. According to Azcón, teachers will take on a lighter teaching load, allowing them to devote more time to improving education.
More resources aimed at strengthening the skills of Aragon’s students
During his visit with students in the International Baccalaureate program at Vega del Turia Secondary School, Azcón linked current education policy decisions to Aragon’s future. The president said the public system must have the resources needed to improve students’ knowledge and skills.
The stated goal is to ensure that young people in Aragon can go as far as they want without education becoming an obstacle. In this regard, Azcón argued that education should expand their opportunities rather than limit their aspirations.
University of Zaragoza funding agreement moves toward 2030 deal
The president also said that an agreement on the overall funding model for the University of Zaragoza is in its final stage. The proposal envisages a framework running through 2030.
The agreement is intended to provide the academic institution with long-term financial stability.
