Aragón reaffirms its commitment to MotorLand

The Government of Aragón has reaffirmed its commitment to hosting MotoGP at the MotorLand Aragón circuit, despite the absence of an official schedule from Dorna Sports. This commitment is evident in the ongoing discussions with the organization responsible for global competitions.

To ensure the continuity of MotoGP in Alcañiz, the regional government has invested 6.2 million euros from the Teruel Investment Fund (FITE) for the resurfacing of the circuit. This investment has been crucial in keeping MotorLand on the official calendar, thus ensuring the event’s presence in Aragón.

In addition to improvements to the track, an additional 2 million euros have been allocated to enhance the internal roadways of the circuit. These enhancements not only optimize conditions for racing but also strengthen the overall infrastructure of the venue.

Complementary Initiatives and Regional Development

The Government of Aragón has not limited itself to MotoGP races. It has promoted the creation of the Aragón Karting School, an initiative aimed at fostering the sport from an early age and creating a talent pool of future drivers. Furthermore, synergies with Technopark have been strengthened, boosting technological development and innovation in the region.

These initiatives complement the economic and social impact that MotorLand generates in Aragón, highlighting its importance beyond international competitions.

Administrative Challenges and Political Contrasts

In 2023, during the previous government led by the PSOE, MotorLand was the only circuit affected by the Iberian rotation, being left off the MotoGP calendar. Although a study existed that supported the positive economic impact of the event in the region, it was not published at the time, leading to some controversy.

The commitment of the Government of Aragón contrasts with the stance of the central government, which decided to grant a direct aid of 2 million euros to the Montmeló circuit, highlighting a lack of interest in supporting MotorLand at the national level.
