Aragón Joins the Sevilla Declaration for Sustainable Tourism

The Government of Aragón has adhered to the Seville Declaration, a document signed by thirteen autonomous communities during the Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS), an international fair for tourism innovation held in the Andalusian capital. The Minister of Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco, and the managing director of Tourism and Hospitality, Jorge Moncada, represented the region at the signing event of the document.

In addition to Aragón, the declaration is signed by Andalusia, Cantabria, Castile and León, Community of Madrid, Valencian Community, Extremadura, Galicia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, La Rioja, Melilla, and Region of Murcia. These territories account for 70% of national tourism, 75% of international tourists, and 73% of hotel overnight stays in the country.

Under the title «For a Tourist Leadership Based on Governance and Territorial Cohesion,» the declaration advocates for tourism as the primary economic driver and job creator. The signing communities express concern over the lack of institutional dialogue, noting that the Sectoral Conference on Tourism has not been convened since December 2023. The document rejects discourses that blame tourism for social or environmental problems and demands respect for the autonomous competences framework.

The communities call for a review of Royal Decree 1312/2024 concerning the Unique Registry, describing it as an invasion of competences and unnecessary bureaucratic burden. Regarding Tourist Use Housing, the declaration states that when correctly regulated by the autonomous authority, they represent a form of accommodation that revitalizes urban centers and complements the tourism offer, without causing inequality or problems with access to housing.
