Aragón Launches AI Training Program for Educators

The Department of Education of Aragón has launched an innovative training pathway in Artificial Intelligence (AI) aimed at educators, with the goal of transforming the educational and business approach in the region. This announcement was made during the III Professional Training Conference–Unizar, highlighting the crucial role of AI in the education of the future.

Reflection Days on AI in Education

The conference, inaugurated by the acting Councillor for Education, Culture and Sport, Tomasa Hernández, focused on the theme «Artificial Intelligence as a Driver of Educational and Business Transformation». This event brought together educators, students, researchers, and professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities that AI presents in both the educational and productive spheres. Organized by the Centre for Innovation, Training and Research in Education Sciences (CIFICE), the Centre of Excellence for Professional Training Corona de Aragón, and the General Directorate of Planning, Centers and Vocational Training of the Government of Aragón, the event featured notable figures such as Luis Morellón, Inmaculada Zamorano, and Jacobo Cano.

During her speech, Hernández emphasized the importance of a critical and humanistic approach to the development of AI, rejecting «technological solutionism». She underscored the need for educational policies that prioritize individuals, in accordance with the recommendations of international organizations such as UNESCO and the OECD, focusing on transparency, equity, data protection, and the reduction of inequalities.

The new training pathway, implemented through the Aularagón platform, consists of six courses and one hundred and forty tutored hours. Its goal is to equip educators with the necessary tools to understand and apply AI in the educational field in an ethical and effective manner. This program aims to empower teachers to protect the digital rights of the educational community, improve curriculum design, and promote inclusive classroom practices.

In addition, the ‘AI: The New Study Companion’ Award was introduced, targeted at students of Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, and Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees at the University of Zaragoza. This award recognizes the creation of audiovisual content that explores how AI has influenced the study habits of young people. The conference also included presentations, round tables, and dialogue spaces, encouraging the exchange of ideas on the impact of AI in education and the business sector.
