On Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Monasterio de Veruela will host the musical universe of Depedro, the personal project of Jairo Zavala, one of the most interesting and nomadic artists on the Spanish scene.
Depedro was born in 2008 with his self-titled debut album, recorded with the legendary American band Calexico in Tucson, Arizona. This collaboration has been mutual and profound: Jairo was part of Calexico for over 10 years as a guitarist and co-writer.
A Cross-Border Project
From the outset, Depedro has been characterized by being a borderless project. His music incorporates influences from Latin America, Africa, the Mediterranean, and the United States, creating a unique and enriching sound. Jairo Zavala has released eight full-length albums and several EPs, in addition to the musical documentaries “Casamance” (filmed in Senegal) and “Fanantenana” (in Madagascar).
His music has taken him to the five continents, with tours across the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Central America, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, China, Africa, and throughout Europe. His albums have been released in over 30 countries, and his collaborations with musicians worldwide in different languages are one of his hallmarks.
Latest Work
In 2024, he released “Un lugar perfecto”, produced by Gustavo Guerrero. It is a musical journey along a backroad that reflects the human transit between anxiety and hope, celebration, emotion, and disappointment. A poetic album that captures the complexity and beauty of life.
