The Government of Aragon has announced an ambitious measure aimed at reducing the educational digital divide and advancing towards more inclusive teaching. Through a new call for applications, the autonomous community will allocate 912,000 euros to subsidize the implementation of 304 interactive digital classrooms in private schools serving students in vulnerable situations.
An Impulse Towards Digital Equity
The initiative is specifically directed at private schools that have 30% or more vulnerable students, with the goal of ensuring equitable access to educational technologies. Each classroom can receive up to 3,000 euros for the purchase of equipment such as interactive monitors, tablets, and other digital devices.
The deadline to apply for these grants is June 17, 2025, and the measure is part of the state program #EcoDigEdu, co-financed by the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism – NextGenerationEU.
Complement to Investment in the Public Network
This action in private schools is in addition to an even greater investment in public schools in Aragon. In total, more than 9 million euros have been allocated to equip 3,519 interactive monitors in public schools for early childhood, primary, and special education, in a centralized acquisition driven by the Department of Education.
Moreover, the installation of 3,607 interactive monitors is underway in both public and private secondary schools. This action, awarded to Vodafone Spain for 5.98 million euros, also includes teacher training to ensure appropriate pedagogical use of the new resources.
An Integrated Strategy for Digital Education
All these actions are part of the territorial cooperation program #EcoDigEdu, which is one of the main lines of the educational component of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain. The approach combines technological provision with teacher training and planning aligned with the principles of sustainability and social inclusion.
Relevance at the European Level
The Aragonese strategy stands out for its comprehensive and equitable approach. Among its key points:
-
Digitalization with Social Justice Criteria
Priority is given to schools serving the most disadvantaged groups. -
Balance Between Educational Networks
The simultaneous action in public and private schools avoids structural imbalances. -
Teacher Training as a Cornerstone
The project’s sustainability is reinforced by incorporating professional teacher training.
A Replicable Reference
The model being promoted in Aragon could become a reference for other regions in Spain and Europe. By combining European funding, regional strategy, and an inclusive approach, the community provides a practical example of how to move towards a fair and effective educational digital transformation.
In Numbers: The total investment approaches 17 million euros, distributed among:
-
912,000 euros for private schools with vulnerable students,
-
9 million euros for public schools for early childhood, primary, and special education,
