Juanjo Artero inaugurates the 2025 season at Teatro Principal de Zaragoza

Juanjo Artero stars in «Murder on the Orient Express» to inaugurate the new season at the Principal Theater

The Principal Theater of Zaragoza opens its 2025/2026 season with the theatrical adaptation of the classic by Agatha Christie. The play, which will be performed from September 4 to 14, will take the audience back to the 1930s with a cinematic staging and a cast of twelve performers.

The version directed by José Saiz maintains the original atmosphere of the British writer, using the theatrical adaptation by Ken Ludwig, translated by Alicia Serrat. Juanjo Artero leads the cast portraying the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, accompanied by a talented ensemble including Jaime Vicedo, Helena Font, Ricardo Saiz, Juanan Lucena, Paco Pellicer, Mónica Zamora, Carmen Higueras, Candela Granell, Estela Muñoz, and Fidel David.

The production faithfully recreates the 1930s era through meticulous art direction. The scenery replicates the historic train cars with a cinematic aesthetic, while the costumes accurately reflect the fashion of that decade. The staging is complemented by expressive lighting design and detailed soundscapes that envelop the audience in the atmosphere of the play.

Practical Information

Performances will begin at 8:00 PM, except on Sundays when they will start at 7:00 PM. Tickets are priced at 25 euros, with discounts available for the inaugural performance on Thursday, September 4.

Context of the Original Work

«Murder on the Orient Express» was published by Agatha Christie on January 1, 1934, becoming one of her most recognized works. The plot mainly unfolds on the famous train that connected Paris with Istanbul, where during a winter journey, the vehicle is blocked by snow and one of the passengers is murdered. Although the work has numerous film adaptations, including those by Sidney Lumet (1974) and Kenneth Branagh (2017), the theatrical adaptation by Ken Ludwig premiered this same year, 2025.
