ITA Becomes the First Spanish Laboratory Accredited in Environmental Noise

The Technological Institute of Aragón (ITA) has made history by becoming the first Spanish laboratory accredited under the new Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1208 for the measurement of environmental noise. This accreditation reinforces its leadership in technological innovation applied to noise control in outdoor equipment.

The New European Regulation and Its Impact

On November 16, 2023, the European Commission approved a crucial amendment to Directive 2000/14/EC, which will take effect in May 2025. This update modernizes the methods for measuring environmental noise, adapting them to current technological advancements. The regulation aims to reduce noise pollution, a key objective in the European Union’s policies, supported by investments in research and development through the Horizon Europe program.

The implementation of these regulatory changes represents a significant step towards harmonizing noise standards in outdoor machinery. By adopting these advanced methods, the EU aims to establish a more rigorous framework that ensures environmental protection and public health.

Certification Procedures at ITA

The Acoustics Laboratory at ITA is dedicated to conducting acoustic power tests that are essential for the certification of new machinery models. These tests ensure compliance with Directive 2000/14/EC, especially for equipment that requires mandatory sound emission limits. The involvement of a Notified Body is necessary for certain types of machinery, while others only need to meet the requirements for the corresponding marking.

Accuracy in these certification processes not only ensures regulatory compliance but also promotes innovation and competitiveness in the machinery sector by driving the development of quieter and more efficient equipment.

Users and Applications of the Laboratory

The ITA laboratory primarily provides services to manufacturers of machinery for construction, public works, gardening, and urban cleaning equipment. In addition, public administration uses these tests as part of its market surveillance activities. Noise reduction has become a strategic factor for business competitiveness, serving as an indicator of quality, efficiency, and sustainability.

In an increasingly environmentally conscious market, the ability to offer technologically advanced solutions for noise reduction not only improves quality of life but also strengthens the position of companies that embrace these innovations.
