The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Government of Aragon has launched a tender for the restoration of the Palace of the Counts of Argillo in Morata de Jalón, Zaragoza. This project, which aims to revitalize the building for cultural activities and public use, represents a significant step in the conservation of Aragonese heritage.
Tender Details and Funding
Companies interested in participating in this restoration project have until January 20 to submit their bids through the Public Sector Contracting Platform. The total budget for the works is 680,000 euros, including VAT. The funding comes from 55% from the Government of Aragon’s own funds, while the remaining 45% is provided by the 2% Cultural Program of the Ministry of Transport. The project has a execution period of nine months.
Historical and Cultural Importance of the Palace
The Palace of the Counts of Argillo, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) in the category of Monument in 2004, is an emblematic feature in Morata de Jalón. Together with the parish church of Santa Ana and the Town Hall, it forms the perimeter of the Plaza de España. In 2023, structural consolidation work was carried out on the rear façade and the Painted Hall, highlighting its historical and architectural value.
Scope and Objectives of the Works
The restoration works will focus on the interior of the building, including the renovation of the main staircase, the elevator, and the floors. Work will also be done on the rear façades, the landscaping of the courtyard and the wall, as well as the flooring of the main entrance hallway. These interventions will enable the palace to host cultural activities and guided tour programs, expanding its public use and its integration into the cultural life of the region.
