The water of the Lanuza swamp has vibrated this week to the rhythm of unique voices, unstoppable beats, and unforgettable tributes. The XXXII edition of the Pirineos Sur Festival has gathered thousands of people in the heart of the Tena Valley who have experienced an unforgettable journey: from the overflowing energy of Manu Chao to the luminous pop of Amaia, passing through the jota transformed into a sound revolution by Juanjo Bona and the shared emotion of Izaro. A festival of cultures, sounds, and sunsets etched in memory.
Manu Chao returns to Lanuza as an unstoppable troubadour
On Wednesday, July 16, the Franco-Spanish artist returned to Pirineos Sur three years later, and he did it in style: with an acoustic concert that ignited the audience from the very first chord. It marked the first sold-out of this edition and an authentic nonstop party, with classics like «Clandestino,» «King of the Bongo,» and «Me gustas tú» sung along to even from the water. In an intimate yet powerful format, Manu Chao proved that his energy is unquenchable and his connection with the audience, absolute.
Juanjo Bona takes the jota into the future from the floating stage
On Friday, young Aragonese artist Juanjo Bona made history by becoming the youngest performer to take the stage at Pirineos Sur. With his album Recardelino, he transformed the jota into modern and moving pop. Tracks like «Moncayo,» «La Magallonera,» and «Mis tías» thrilled an engaged audience, who engaged in one of the most epic rushes ever seen to occupy the front row. A bold and tender performance that celebrated roots from a contemporary perspective.
Delaporte turns the swamp into a nonstop dance floor
On Friday night, Delaporte’s electronic music took the valley by storm with a live performance that raised the temperature. Sandra Delaporte shone with her own charisma, while Sergio Salvi dropped beats that left no room to breathe. Covers like «Toro» and hits such as «Techno rico» got even the water dancing. One of the most powerful moments of the night came when Sandra jumped from the stage to embrace her audience… literally, amidst splashes.
Izaro transforms absence into tribute and collective emotion
On Saturday the 19th, Izaro starred in one of the festival’s most intimate and special concerts. Fresh from Latin America, the Basque artist replaced Valeria Castro, who canceled after the passing of her grandmother. With generosity and tenderness, Izaro dedicated her performance to the Canarian artist and her family, offering a delicate repertoire that included «Mi canción para Elisa» and concluded with «La raíz» resonating through the speakers. A sincere, luminous, and profoundly human night.
Amaia dazzles with her elegant and brave pop in Lanuza
The floating stage witnessed a brilliant debut: Amaia presented her new album Si abro los ojos no es real with a flawless production and a full house. There were harp, piano, jotas, choreographies, and covers that created a live show rich in nuance, sensitivity, and strength. «I think this is the most incredible place I’ve ever performed,» confessed the artist. Her performance has been, to date, the most powerful of this edition.
Ultraligera confirms itself as the great promise of Spanish indie
Opening the Sunday lineup, Ultraligera showcased why it is one of the breakout bands of the year. With their album Pelo de foco, they delivered an elegant and vibrant performance that blended indie-pop and electronics. From the very first song, they captivated the audience. The romantic highlight: a marriage proposal on stage that sparked ovations and tears.
Viva Suecia wows and signs a night that is already legendary at Pirineos Sur
On Sunday the 20th, the Murcia-based group delivered a powerful, emotional show filled with indie anthems. They filled the stage with sharp guitars, stage presence, and a unique connection with the audience. Tracks like «Lo que te mereces» and «El bien» shook the valley. It was another sold-out night that will be forever etched in the festival’s history.
The sunset: Lanuza’s great silent protagonist
Each day has been preceded by a magical moment: the setting sun over Peña Foratata. The golden reflection on the swamp, the hum of people taking their seats, the first chord from the floating stage… all contributed to creating a unique atmosphere. The sunset in Lanuza is not applauded; it is experienced. And it stays within you.
Coming up: Nathy Peluso, ZAZ, Julieta Venegas, Ben Harper, Residente…
The festival continues this week with an impressive finale. On Wednesday the 23rd, it will be the turn of Nathy Peluso, who returns after her explosive performance in 2022 to present her new work GRASA. A personal, visceral, and bold album where she dares to speak about the lights and shadows of stardom.
That night will also feature Elena Rose, an emerging star of Latin pop, with millions of listeners on Spotify and a meteoric career that has taken her from writing for Jennifer López or Rauw Alejandro to becoming one of the most promising voices of the moment.
On Thursday the 24th, ZAZ and Camila Guevara will perform; on Friday the 25th, Julieta Venegas and Yerai Cortés will take the stage; on Saturday the 26th, Ben Harper & The Criminals along with Quique González will perform; and on Sunday the 27th, the festival will close with Residente, accompanied by Laura Sam and Gale.
